Learning Disability Week (20 – 26 June)

Learning Disability Week 2022 takes place from 20-26 June and the theme is ‘Living Life with a Learning Disability’. This year, we want to show how people with a learning disability are reconnecting with friends and their communities. We also want to talk about the issues many people still face after the end of COVID restrictions, like still having to isolate or dealing with poor mental health and anxiety.

Learning Disability Week occurs annually. It is all about ensuring the world hears what life is like if you have a learning disability. The aim of the campaign is to:

  • Educate and raise awareness about learning disabilities
  • Smash stigmas and end discrimination
  • Fight and campaign for a fair society

Lots of people don’t know what a learning disability is or what life can be like if you have one. You can get involved with the campaign this year by sharing your story.

Speaking about Learning Disability Week, Dr Jo Sauvage, Chief Medical Officer, NCL ICB said, “I am very pleased that we have this opportunity to raise awareness about what life can be like with a learning disability. Learning disabilities are often misunderstood.

I think it is vital to hear first-hand what people with learning disabilities say about their lives, health and communities. Only in this way can we really understand how to improve outcomes and experiences.”

Further information on Learning Disability Week 2022 can be found on Mencap’s website.

As part of this year’s campaign, organisations throughout North Central London are sharing information and running events to support people with learning disabilities and their families. See a list of these below.
