From August 2020, the 383 bus route will be temporarily extended to serve Finchley Memorial Hospital, enabling patients and staff to more easily access the site.
The bus, operated by Transport for London, currently runs from Woodside Park Station to The Spires in High Barnet, via Friern Barnet, Whetstone and East Barnet Village. It will be extended from Woodside Park and stop inside the Hospital’s grounds close to the front door.
Kay Matthews, Executive Managing Director for the Barnet Directorate of North Central London Clinical Commissioning Group said, “I am delighted that Transport for London has agreed to trial bus access to the Finchley Memorial site after many years of local campaigning. It is going to make such a difference to those patients who are reliant on public transport to attend their appointments, especially for those vulnerable patients who find travelling to the site extremely challenging.”
This temporary change to the bus service has come about in response to the Covid-19 pandemic with some services having to be moved to Finchley Memorial. It was therefore recognised that having the bus service stopping inside the Hospital site would be advantageous for both patients and staff.
Transport for London are planning a formal consultation on the re-routing of the 383 bus later this year.
